It’s time to plan for next year. On January 1, 2025, the state minimum wage is set to increase to $16.50/hr. and the minimum salary for exempt employees throughout the state will be increasing to $68,640.
To complicate matters, there could be a further increase if voters approve the California Living Wage Act, Prop. 32, in November. If passed, Prop. 32 would increase the state minimum wage to $18 an hour.
Workers in certain industries such as healthcare and fast food can expect their own minimum wage increases. Hotel workers in cities such as L.A., Santa Monica, Long Beach, and West Hollywood also recently received their own minimum wage increase.
Certain cities and counties have minimum wages that exceed the state’s 2025 minimum wage. Please refer to our recent Tip of the Week regarding local minimum wages.
